How photos and videos are handled

CleanOnce's three features — similar photo deduplication, video compression, and batch screenshot cleanup — all run locally on your iPhone. Scanning, similarity comparison, and video transcoding happen on-device. Your photos and videos never leave your phone and are never uploaded to any server.

Deletions are gated by the iOS system photo library confirmation dialog, which CleanOnce cannot bypass. Deleted photos first go to the system "Recently Deleted" album, where iOS keeps them for 30 days by its own rules, and are then automatically purged by the system.

If you grant only "Limited Photos" access in system settings, CleanOnce can only see the photos you selected.

Data storage

The app keeps only a simple "last scan result" record locally on your device (to display on the home screen). It also never leaves your device. Uninstalling the app removes everything. Other than the iOS "Recently Deleted" album's 30-day retention, no data remains.

Permissions

Photo library read access
Used to scan for similar photos, identify screenshots, and list compressible videos. All analysis happens locally on-device.
Photo library write access
Used only to save compressed videos back to your library after compression.

Beyond these permissions, CleanOnce requests no others and does not access the network.

Third-party services

CleanOnce integrates no third-party analytics, advertising, push, or crash-reporting services, and the app contains no in-app purchases or subscriptions.
